Ethical and Sustainable Purchasing Policy

Our Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

PISTACHIO PURCHASING POLICY
Our goal is to source beautiful, intelligently designed products that meet the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. We assess each product based on a series of criteria depending on the product type. The Pistachio Purchase Agreement and Green Specifications Checklist sets the standards we encourage our suppliers to meet and holds each supplier accountable for meeting them.
Our vendor partners meet one or more of the following criteria:

Commitment to Ethical Sourcing
We seek out suppliers that are members of organizations or associations that promote ethical sourcing.

Local
We seek out products that have been made in close proximity to our retail locations. In the case of our first two stores we have sought out vendors that are in Canada or the USA

Handmade
We seek out products that are made by hand by artisans / craftspeople

Mission Based Businesses
We seek out suppliers who are on a mission to improve working and environmental conditions in their communities and have explicit commitments to worker’s rights and environmental responsibility

Environmental Commitment
We seek out suppliers committed to environmental responsibility. We work with each vendor to understand their own “in house” environmental practices, environmental certifications and information on the specific kind of materials they use in manufacturing their products

Purchasing Contracts
We work with suppliers who have reviewed and signed our contracts that include accountability for all claims made on their products, labour practices and manufacturing processes.

We believe that we all have the power and the ability to drive change. Ethical consumerism is an awareness of the consequences of production, consumption, and disposal and the dedication to letting it shape our shopping behaviour.

We can all make sustainable life choices that make a difference by carefully choosing the products and services that complement our lives – from the food we eat to the items we buy.
